Odessa College has a history of providing fitness and wellness options and opportunities for our students, our employees and the community. The Sports Center serves 8,000 students and 2,000 community members annually. The new FitnessCourt® at Odessa College opened in February 2024 providing a free and efficient space for community to workout on campus. And the college’s annual Odessa College 30 for 30 Fitness Challenge® has encouraged participants world-wide to start the new school year strong – exercising for 30 minutes a day, all 30 days in the month of September. OC 30 for 30 has served as the genesis for people wanting to start a new fitness routine and commit to a healthy lifestyle.
The college plans to incorporate community health, wellness and fitness into the new, strategic master plan, Vision 2030+. This plan includes campus walking trails, resurfacing the current track with an all-weather synthetic surface and installing artificial turf in the center of the outdoor track. The wellness component of Vision 2030+ will be launched in three phases:
Wrangler Trails | Phase 1
Establish a one-third (1/3) mile walking loop in the heart of the Odessa College Campus including outdoor fitness stations. The loop meets ADA specifications, is accessible from both the north and south parking lots, and will provide a safe, well-lit walking trail for walkers. Wrangler Trails is open today…signs on light poles and on sidewalks will help you find your way!
- Open 7 days a week
- 6 am until 9 pm
- Walking & jogging only
- Strollers permitted
- Bicycles and skateboards not permitted
- CrossFit, cross training and exercise classes not permitted
James Segrest Stadium | Phase 2
Resurfacing current track and installation of an artificial turf infield. The resurfaced track and field are available for families and fitness/sports enthusiasts to walk, run and exercise during the monthly 1st Saturday at the Stadium events, March - November. The Stadium facility is also available for reservation requests for training, practices and events. These improvements will be integral in re-establishing a nationally competitive track and field program that will attract talented student-athletes from all over the world.
Wrangler Trails – part 2 | Phase 3
Establish one-half (1/2) and (1) mile walking trails on the Odessa College Campus including outdoor fitness stations. The trails meet ADA specifications, are accessible from both the north and south parking lots, and will provide a safe, well-lit walking trail for walkers. The one mile walking trail is expected to open after the construction of the new, state-of-the-art Wood Health Sciences Building.
